About Biohazard Cleanup
Most people reading this are having one of the worst days of their life and have never had to arrange anything like it before. The honest version of who we are matters more than a sales pitch, so here it is.
What this site is
Biohazard Cleanup is a referral service, not a remediation contractor. We do not own trucks, we do not employ technicians, and nobody from this website will arrive at your property. What happens when you call is that you are connected to an independent, licensed biohazard remediation company that covers your area and is available now. That company assesses the property, writes the scope, sets the price and carries out the work.
We say that at the top rather than in the small print, because a company that is vague about whether it does the work itself is a company you should be wary of.
Why that is useful, and when it is not
At four in the morning, after finding a family member, very few people want to ring six companies and compare quotes. One call gets you to a crew that covers your postcode and can tell you honestly when they can be there. That is the whole value of it.
If you have time and you would rather choose a contractor yourself, do that instead. It is a completely reasonable decision, and the questions below are the ones worth asking whoever you end up calling — including the crew we would have sent you.
How we are paid, stated plainly
You are not charged anything. Contractors pay to receive enquiries from people who need this work. That is the commercial arrangement, and it is worth knowing before you decide how much weight to give anything written on this site, because it is the thing that could bias a referral service. Our view is that you are better served by being told that than by a page claiming to be a neutral directory.
One useful consequence: because we do not do the work, the guidance on this site is not steering you toward our own crew. We have no reason to tell you a job is bigger than it is.
What to ask before you hire anyone
These five questions separate a company set up for this work from one that is not. Ask them of us, and ask them of anyone else you call.
- Who is your permitted medical waste hauler, and will I get the disposal manifests? Contaminated material is regulated waste. A company without a straight answer is not equipped for the job.
- Will you give me a written scope and a fixed price before you start? Anyone quoting a firm figure over the phone, before seeing the property, is guessing — the extent is almost always beneath the flooring rather than on it.
- Are your technicians trained to the OSHA bloodborne pathogen standard? That is 29 CFR 1910.1030, and it is the baseline, not a premium feature.
- Will you arrive in unmarked vehicles? In most of these situations a signwritten van outside the house tells the whole street what has happened.
- Will you document everything for my insurer? Photographs before work starts, the written scope, and the disposal paperwork. Most homeowner policies cover this, and claims are refused for missing documentation more often than for anything else.
Who operates this site
Biohazard Cleanup is operated by Adeel Zaighum, from Detroit, MI. If a referral goes wrong, if a contractor behaves badly, or if you want your details removed from our records, write to help@biohazardcleanup.org and it reaches a real inbox. How your information is handled is set out in full in the privacy policy.
We would rather be accurate than impressive. This site does not claim certifications it does not hold, a fleet it does not own, or years of trading it has not done. The companies we connect you to hold the credentials — and the questions above are how you check.
Common questions
Are you the company that does the cleanup?
No. Biohazard Cleanup is a referral service. When you call, you are connected to an independent, licensed remediation contractor working in your area. They assess the property, set the price and do the work. We are not on site and we do not set what you pay.
Then why call you instead of searching for a contractor yourself?
Because at four in the morning, after finding a family member, most people do not want to phone six companies and compare them. One call routes you to a crew that covers your area and is available now. If you would rather research and choose yourself, that is a completely reasonable thing to do, and the questions further down this page are the ones worth asking whoever you call.
Do you charge me anything?
No. The call is free and we do not invoice you. The contractor who attends quotes you directly for the work.
How do you make money?
Contractors pay to receive enquiries from people who need the work done. That is worth stating plainly, because it is the thing that could bias a referral service, and you should know it before you decide how much weight to give our advice.
Who runs this site?
Adeel Zaighum. The site is operated from a single registered address and the contact details on the contact page reach a real inbox. If something about a referral goes wrong, that is where to write.
